Flights

Miri Airport (MYY), which moved to a sparkling new facility in 2005, is a significant hub for central Borneo. To access Miri by air, it is recommended to travel from Peninsular Malaysia due to frequent flights from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru with various airlines available such as Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Malindo and Firefly. Miri airport is also connected to all major destinations in Malaysian Borneo, including Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. Furthermore, there are connecting flights in between Singapore and Miri which allows participants to plan ahead of their journey to reach on time.

Alternatively, you can fly to Brunei and go to Miri by land transport.

Attractions

Miri is the second largest city in Sarawak with a population close to a quarter of a million but until oil was first drilled in 1910 it was little more than a fishing village. The town developed rapidly following the discovery of oil and it became the administrative centre for northern Sarawak by 1929.

In addition to Niah National Park visit, you can get to explore the Iban Longhouse. The ibans are the single largest tribe in Sarawak and they are traditionally live in longhouses which are actually a number of rooms linked together but sharing a common ‘ruai’ – a verandah were traditional ceremonies are performed in the olden days.
